Clients can be proactive in addressing legal and risk-related needs to better protect the business' interests now and in the future. We work closely with clients to determine what their anticipated needs are and structure a monthly flat fee that addresses their needs. Feel free to call or email us with any questions or to set up a consult!
Beginning this year, Washington State law requires manufacturers of electronics to provide recycling services for their products at no cost to consumers and businesses. The Washington Materials Management & Financing Authority (WMMFA) is the manufacturer agency charged with establishing and overseeing the e-Cycle Washington Program and collector network. This makes it easy to recycle all that office stuff!
A new provisison under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act set to take effect February 10 requires that all products sold for children, including clothing and toys, to be tested for lead. Any and all stores, including consignment, thrift, retail and online sellers, would be required to test their products and discard any that are deemed hazardous. Furtherore, any items that are not tested are considered hazardous and must be thrown out. This testing requirement will likely put many smaller retailers out of business as the process of testing every item is very expensive and time intensive. An interesting point, though, is why only products directed toward children are required to be tested when numerous household products that children are exposed to are not required to be tested. The law seems to be fairly arbitrary and broad in its scope. Read about the CPSIA.
