Dealing with Different Client Types

April 25, 2007

A client of mine forwarded me a link to an article from the Freelance Switch blog entitled "The 12 Breeds of Clients and How to Work with Them." It's an interesting perspective applicable mostly to professional services types but also relevant to other business people. It discusses ways to deal with all sorts of clients from the "low-tech client" to the "always urgent client" and many in between. I disagree somewhat with the positioning of lawyers in some aspects here but this isn't about me. Enjoy the humor but realize there are very important take-aways. You'll definitely relate to it!

Paperless Office Tools

April 18, 2007

We all find that despite our goal of functioning in a paperless office, the paper still fills the file cabinets. A colleague passed along a tool called PDF Redirect. It's freeware that that allows you to create a PDF of any document you can print including emails and webpages. This helps to consolidate all communications or documents in one file folder or location rather than having them spread between electronic file folders, email folders and hard copy folders. It's available for download on multiple sites -- check it out.

Small Business News

April 11, 2007

If you haven't yet heard Paul Casey's Small Business Report on KKNW Alternative Talk 1150AM radio, check it out on Monday and Tuesday mornings from 8-9am -- perfect "drive time" listening. Paul provides practical and relevant tips and news for small business owners. He also has a "Quote of the Week" with quick tips for you to use immediately in your business. I was a guest on the show on March 26 discussing risk management techniques and will be providing a periodic quote for the "Quote of the Week".

Online Networking That Works

April 04, 2007

A colleague of mine mentioned an online networking community that she found fabulous. It's an online community of small business owners looking to help one another through referrals and member-hosted events. The great thing is that you can choose which events to attend. You gain credibility among the members by attending events and referring to other members. My colleague needed some feedback on a new web design and got valuable comments from many members. She's also attended some interesting events -- many are not your typical meet and mingle. Check it out at www.biznik.com.
